Xirrus: Monitor, Wi-Fi networks for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux

The North American company Xirrus launched an open source version of Linux for its program of monitoring of wireless networks, the Xirrus Wi-Fi Monitor.

Implemented as a gDesklet, the display of wireless networks shows details of the current connection and a history of previous connections, and provide a way to display similar to a "radar", representing, so short, all available networks nearby.

This mode of display can be switched to a mode table, containing all the details of available wireless networks, and information about the configuration of the network card in operation and performance statistics on the connection.

The mode radar, although interesting, can be turned off, keeping only the representation of the access points in rings that basically illustrate the strength of the signal for a particular network - although this move illustration of the erroneous perception that it is the physical placement the access point.

The version of the open source application for Linux, written in Python, was published under the General Public License of GNU (GPL) and with it, the Xirrus complete its portfolio of supported operating systems, as already available versions Windows ® Vista - in the form of a gadget native -, Windows XP and Mac OS X, the latter two using the environment provided by Yahoo! Widgets, and pave the way for that versions for other operating systems, open source can be developed.
